Ginger-Honey-Garlic Glazed Salmon in a Cast Iron Skillet
Salmon is my favorite fish to cook for my family and enjoy on a night out on the town. Here is my favorite recipe with all the best fresh ingredients. I found that the salmon at Trader Joe’s is a great serving size and value price. Hope you enjoy this recipe as much as we do here at the Cook Family House.
If you’re looking for a salmon recipe that delivers restaurant-level flavor with minimal fuss, this is it. Perfectly seared, beautifully glazed, and finished in the oven—this Ginger -Honey-Garlic Glazed Salmon is bold, sticky, and utterly crave-worthy.
Ingredients
For the glaze:
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 teaspoon chili paste (like sambal oelek, or adjust to taste)
For the salmon:
- 4 salmon fillets (6 ounces each, skin-on preferred)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Optional: Chopped green onion and sesame seeds, for garnish
Step 1: Preheat Like a Pro
Place a rack in the center of your oven and preheat to 425°F.
On the stovetop, set a large cast-iron skillet (or oven-safe skillet) over high heat. Let it heat for at least 10 minutes. It should be screaming hot—this helps the salmon sear properly and prevents sticking.
Step 2: Make the Glaze
In a small saucepan, combine:
- Soy sauce
- Apple Cider vinegar
- Garlic
- Ginger
Bring to a simmer over medium-high heat, then remove from heat and stir in the honey and chili paste.
Scoop out a few spoonfuls of the cooked glaze into a separate bowl—this is for drizzling over the finished dish.
Step 3: Sear the Salmon
Pat the salmon dry and drizzle with olive oil. Use a brush to evenly coat.
Place the salmon skin-side up into the hot skillet and do not touch for 3 minutes. You’re building a crisp crust.
When the edges start to turn opaque and the top is just beginning to lighten, gently flip each piece with a flexible spatula. Brush or spoon the remaining glaze from the saucepan over the top.
Step 4: Roast & Rest
Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and cook for 6 minutes. The salmon may look slightly underdone in the center, but it will finish cooking as it rests.
Remove from the oven, cover loosely with foil, and let rest for 4–5 minutes.
Step 5: Serve It Up
Plate the salmon and spoon the reserved glaze on top. Garnish with chopped green onion and a sprinkle of sesame seeds for that final pop of flavor.
Step 5: Optional Creamy Lemon Dill Topping
This light and tangy topping adds a cooling contrast to the rich, sticky glaze.
In a small bowl, combine:
1/2 cup sour cream
2 tablespoons chopped fresh dill
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
Optional: a little lemon zest for brightness
Pinch of salt and pepper
Stir until smooth. Taste and adjust lemon or dill to your liking. Refrigerate until ready to serve.



Pro Tips!
Don’t skip the 10-minute skillet preheat—it’s the key to a no-stick sear.
If your salmon has no skin, reduce the sear time slightly to avoid overcooking.
Leftovers? Flake the salmon into a rice bowl or wrap it in lettuce for a light lunch the next day.
